Rosemary a bee plant, easy to grow

The botanical name Rosmarinus, meaning “dew of the sea”, characterizes this plant of the Lamiaceae family, native to the arid and rocky scrub surrounding the Mediterranean. Easy to grow, rosemary likes sunny sites and well-drained soil. Although this plant is native to the South, it tolerates negative temperatures down to -18°C and can therefore be grown in all regions of France.

The cultivation of rosemary was already recommended in the royal estates by Charlemagne in the De Villis chapter. This document, written in medieval Latin, describes the list of plants to be grown in the gardens. Another advantage of this plant is that it is very honey-sweet and therefore also attracts pollinating insects and a whole biodiversity that is good for the garden.
